There are a few steps to follow for optimizing your system. Let's take them from the top, step by step. First, go to the icon "my computer", then click on "properties". After you have done this step, go to "file system." Now go to the tab that says "network server" which is located under "role of this computer. This will speed up the transfer.
Second, make sure that there is not a check mark in the box located under the floppy disc tab. This will slow up your boot time. While you are surfing the internet, there are images that are stored in the cache. This section is needed for systems that use dial up to access the internet. Make sure that the cache size is not to large because internet explorer has a lot of images to check through before it can download them. As a result, this can slow up your browsing.

You can set the cache size smaller and the images downloads quicker. To speed up your system, I recommend you to have a 50MB or greater for dial up, and 10MB for DSL or cable. You can make these adjustments by selecting the "tools" tab under the internet explorer tab. Then select internet options. Now go to the "temporary internet files" and adjust the cache amount by using the slider.
Probably the most important part of the whole optimization process is to regularly run all of your system utilities such as disk defragment, anti-virus software and registry cleaners. This basic stuff alone will do 99% of what you need to keep your computer running smoothly.
